Productivity hacks for the holidays

Maintaining a routine during the holidays can be hard! Between cooking, eating turkey, and late nights with family and friends, it’s easy to let your body get off that internal clock you usually have to maintain for work and school.

Here are some tips to help you stay focused and get some work done during the holidays!

1. Put time aside to finish work and school related tasks

The holidays are family focused and it’s easy to forget about other responsibilities. This is why it’s important to set aside moments when you can sit down uninterrupted and read that report, or finish that textbook chapter. It doesn’t have to be an every day thing, just be sure to use your time wisely on the select days when there aren’t any events that need your full attention.

2. Keep a “To-Do” list

A “To-Do” list can help you make sure you stay on track with tasks. Crossing off one or two tasks a day can be satisfying and make you feel productive during the holidays!

3. Try to keep up with your sleep schedule

While the holidays are meant for catching up on sleep, don’t overdo it! Too much sleep will make it harder to resume the routine you had during work and school days. Sure, get that extra hour or two in, but don’t spend all day in bed!

4. Plan on exercising

Let’s face it, there is no way you’re not going to have that second serving of pie! It’s important not to deprive yourself, but it’s also important to keep your body active both before and after your extra treat. Go for a walk with the family, or do some short circuit exercises at home.

5. Pace your food intake

While you will undoubtedly want extra holiday food, (like an extra slice of pie!), maybe cut down on other foods you don’t hold so dear (like skipping a second helping of mashed potatoes). Staying conscious about your intake  can help maintain some balance with your diet.

6. Regulate your social media usage

While posting on social media and sharing your holiday spirit online is exciting and a thing of today, it also glues you to your phone. Put your phone away and spend time with your family and save the uploading of pictures for later on, during your down time.

However, work and school shouldn’t rule your holidays. Enjoy your time with your friends and family. I hope these tips are helpful in maintaining your routine! Have fun and be safe!
